28 Movers Own a Third of Florida's Google Reviews. Here's How the Rest Catch Up

Google reviews among Florida moving companies are concentrated at the top: the 28 movers with the most reviews hold 31% of all of them. We counted 152,700 reviews across 561 independent movers in the top Google Maps results for 21 Florida metros in September 2026. The 280 movers with the fewest reviews share 11.4%. The leaders are not better rated either. Their median is 4.9 stars, against 4.8 for everyone else. The gap is volume.
Every moving company owner knows their star rating. Far fewer know their review count against the rest of their market, and that is the number doing the separating. Picture a customer comparing three movers on Google. All three show 4.8 stars. One has 1,200 reviews. The other two have 60.
How concentrated are Google reviews among Florida movers?
Very. Sort the 561 movers by review count and the curve drops fast. Twenty-six companies have more than 1,000 reviews each. Fifty-three have fewer than 20.
| Reviews per company | Movers | Reviews held | Share of all reviews |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 or more | 26 | 45,511 | 29.8% |
| 500 to 999 | 55 | 36,231 | 23.7% |
| 250 to 499 | 100 | 34,847 | 22.8% |
| 100 to 249 | 171 | 27,196 | 17.8% |
| 50 to 99 | 80 | 5,860 | 3.8% |
| 20 to 49 | 76 | 2,559 | 1.7% |
| Under 20 | 53 | 496 | 0.3% |
Put another way, 81 movers, about one in seven, hold more than half of every review in the sample. The top 10% of companies hold 44.4% of the reviews. The top 20% hold 62.4%.
Do the movers with the most reviews have better ratings?
Barely. The 28 leaders have a median of 4.9 stars. The other 533 movers have a median of 4.8. One of the 28 sits at 3.9. In Florida, stars stopped separating movers a while ago, because most of them are already near the ceiling.
Low ratings do show up more among companies with thin review counts. Of the 76 movers with 20 to 49 reviews, 25 are rated under 4.5. Of the 26 movers with more than 1,000 reviews, 2 are. Part of that is plain arithmetic: one angry customer moves a 30-review average much further than a 1,000-review average. It is a pattern in the data, not proof that more reviews cause better ratings.
Where are Florida's 28 most-reviewed movers?
Spread across 17 cities. Jacksonville has six of them, and Fort Lauderdale and Gainesville have three each. No company with an Orlando address made the list, although two in its suburbs, Apopka and Casselberry, did. The entry ticket is 901 reviews. The company at the very top has 4,141.
Which Florida cities have the most concentrated review markets?
In a concentrated city, one or two companies own the conversation, and every newcomer competes against their wall of reviews on every search. In a spread-out city, nobody has run away with it yet. Among the 21 Florida cities where we counted at least 12 movers, the three most-reviewed companies hold half or more of all reviews in 9.
| City | Movers counted | Total reviews | Top mover holds | Top 3 hold | Median reviews |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| West Palm Beach | 23 | 9,378 | 44.2% | 75.3% | 130 |
| Gainesville | 14 | 6,533 | 24.8% | 69.9% | 223 |
| Fort Myers | 14 | 2,321 | 46.5% | 69.7% | 65 |
| Pensacola | 16 | 2,362 | 47.0% | 68.6% | 45 |
| Boca Raton | 25 | 4,508 | 41.9% | 62.2% | 61 |
| Port St. Lucie | 14 | 1,378 | 26.0% | 60.5% | 63 |
| Lakeland | 13 | 2,110 | 22.5% | 57.9% | 94 |
| Sarasota | 20 | 5,528 | 22.4% | 52.2% | 166 |
| Clearwater | 17 | 3,979 | 21.8% | 51.7% | 143 |
| St. Petersburg | 16 | 4,102 | 19.1% | 49.9% | 137 |
| Tallahassee | 17 | 2,077 | 21.4% | 49.8% | 83 |
| Daytona Beach | 14 | 1,380 | 21.2% | 49.5% | 73 |
| Ocala | 17 | 2,974 | 22.3% | 47.6% | 121 |
| Fort Lauderdale | 30 | 10,853 | 19.1% | 46.7% | 166 |
| Naples | 18 | 4,854 | 17.7% | 44.5% | 146 |
| Melbourne | 12 | 3,346 | 17.4% | 44.3% | 272 |
| Miami | 37 | 9,085 | 27.4% | 43.1% | 116 |
| Kissimmee | 18 | 3,764 | 17.3% | 42.5% | 139 |
| Jacksonville | 41 | 16,741 | 13.7% | 32.4% | 206 |
| Tampa | 26 | 9,921 | 17.0% | 31.9% | 276 |
| Orlando | 28 | 6,605 | 12.8% | 31.5% | 150 |
By the top-three measure, West Palm Beach is the most concentrated market: one company holds 44% of the city's reviews and the top three hold 75%. Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville are the most open, with the top three holding about a third. If you are the underdog, a spread-out city is the better place to be one.
How many Google reviews does a moving company need to reach the top?
| Where you would rank in Florida | Reviews needed |
|---|---|
| Top half (the median mover) | 142 |
| Top 20% (112 companies) | 376 |
| Top 10% (56 companies) | 622 |
| Top 28 (5%) | 901 |
| Number one | 4,141 |
From the median, joining the top 28 means 759 more reviews. At 20 new reviews a month, that takes a little over three years. At 40 a month, about 19 months. Getting from the median into the top 20% is 234 reviews, or about a year at 20 a month. That is simple division, not a forecast, and the leaders keep collecting while you catch up.
Why does review count matter for a moving company?
Because Google says it does. Its guide to local ranking describes prominence as based partly on how many reviews a business has, and states that “more reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking.” Count sits right beside rating in that sentence.
It matters to the customer for a simpler reason. A 4.9 from 1,500 people is evidence. A 4.9 from 15 people is a hope. And the count only helps when a machine can read it, which is where most mover websites fall down. Our AI SEO fix list for movers covers putting your rating into the code.
How can a moving company get more Google reviews without breaking the rules?
- Ask every customer, at the same moment. Pick one trigger, the crew finishing the last room or a message the next day, and make it automatic. An ask that depends on someone remembering after a long move day is the ask that does not happen.
- Send the link, not directions. Google Business Profile creates a review link and a QR code for exactly this. Every extra step between the customer and the review box is a chance to forget.
- Ask everyone, not only the happy ones. Google's Maps content policy prohibits businesses from selectively soliciting positive reviews and from discouraging negative ones. Filtering who gets the link is the easiest rule to break by accident.
- Never pay for a review. Google prohibits offering payment, discounts or free services in exchange for any review. The FTC's 2024 rule on fake reviews also bans incentives conditioned on a positive or negative review, and lets the FTC seek civil penalties.
- Reply to the reviews you get. Google's own review tips say replying shows customers their feedback matters. A calm reply to a bad review is read by every future customer who scrolls past it.
Step one is where most movers lose, because it depends on a person remembering at the end of a long day. That is an operational leak, the same kind that loses calls, and it is fixable the same way: take the person out of it, and send the ask to every customer on the same schedule.
How we measured this
- Google Maps results for the search “moving company [metro] FL” across 21 Florida metros, up to 50 places per search, pulled 14 September 2026.
- 1,050 places came back. We removed 300 that were not movers, 105 national brands, 55 extra locations of a company already counted, 16 duplicate phone numbers, 8 without a US phone number, 1 closed business and 1 existing client. That left 564 companies, 561 of them with a Google rating.
- Cities are the city in each company's Google address, not the metro we searched. A city appears in the city table only when we counted at least 12 movers there.
- Limits: this is the top of Google Maps in each metro, not every mover in Florida. Smaller companies that never surface in those results are not counted, so the true spread across all Florida movers is likely wider than shown here. National brands are excluded, so the figures describe independent movers. Review counts are a snapshot on the pull date.
- No company is named. The point is the shape of the market, not a leaderboard.
